Challenge

The challenge at hand is to address the fact that over 60% of our users access Cracked content through mobile devices. Our objective is to capitalize on this audience and generate new revenue streams while simultaneously enhancing the accessibility and optimizing the user experience of our native app. To overcome this challenge, we need to strategically streamline navigation, provide personalization options, and gather user feedback for iterative improvements. By implementing these product design strategies, we can create a seamless and engaging mobile experience, making our content more accessible and driving user engagement and business growth.

User Flow Map

BLUEPRINT

At the start of each project, I create a basic user flow map as a guiding blueprint for the foundational structure of the app. Typically, I begin by sketching it on a whiteboard and later create a digital version using tools like Sketch or Figma, which can be shared with the team. This approach allows everyone involved to grasp the fundamental concept of the app before diving into wireframes or high-fidelity comps. Solution

The goal of developing the Cracked Reader app was to provide users with a native and optimized mobile experience. To achieve this, I used our existing mobile website as a reference and created high-fidelity mockups to present to stakeholders, showcasing potential improvements. The key features highlighted below were meticulously designed to enhance the overall user experience of the app.

CUSTOMIZED EXPERIENCE

  • Enhanced the visual appeal of the app's index pages by incorporating larger thumbnail images.

  • Implemented engaging micro-interactions throughout the app, such as parallax scroll effects and scale animations, to enhance the overall user experience.

  • Implemented a user-friendly tab bar for seamless navigation between different sections of the app.

  • Redesigned the action bar to enhance user engagement by enabling quick access to the comment section.

  • Implemented options for adjusting font size, improving accessibility for users with different preferences.

  • Introduced a bookmarking feature to allow users to save and easily access their favorite content.

  • Enabled content sharing functionality, making it convenient for users to share articles and other content with friends.

ANALYZING SUCCESS: ESSENTIAL METRICS TO CONSIDER

  1. Downloads: Monitor the total number of app downloads to analyze levels of interest and adoption of the app.

  2. User Engagement: Metrics such as session duration, average time per session and frequency of app to provide insights into user engagement and active usage patterns.

  3. Retention Rate: Monitor the percentage of users who continue to use the app over a specific period to see the app’s ability to retail it’s user base.

  4. App Store Ratings and Reviews: We would monitor the app’s ratings and reviews in app stores to help gauge user satisfaction and overall reputation.

  5. User Feedback: We would gather feedback through surveys and user interviews to help understand user satisfaction, pain points and areas for impovement.

Custom icons were designed for each section of the app to enhance visual distinction in the side drawer navigation. Instead of relying solely on text, these unique icons provide a more intuitive and visually appealing way for users to differentiate between different sections.
